Kate’s Journey
After a season of deep disappointment and struggling with anxiety that took a toll on my physical, mental and spiritual health, I decided that enough was enough. I chose to take charge and prioritise my health – spirit, mind and body.
I created a daily routine that encompassed all three of these fundamental elements. I defined boundaries for things that hindered my mental health, set myself a goal to work towards, joined a gym and created space each morning to spend time in prayer. All these things working in tandem allowed me to discover the most holistic and healthy version of myself.
Change didn’t happen because of one decision I made, it happened because I consistently made the same positive choices each day. When my friends saw my physical gains and spiritual growth, they wanted to know how I had achieved it and how they could create consistency in their own lives. And so the first Temple plan was created.
Having put together several plans for my friends and seeing the positive changes it’s also had in their lives, I realised that I wanted to make Temple accessible to anyone seeking to build new daily habits.
But what did I do, practically?
SPIRIT
I woke up early to spend time with God. Before I picked up my phone or headed out to the gym, I put Jesus first by spending time reading my Bible, reflecting on scripture and praying. I wanted my faith in Jesus to be the first priority of the day and the One who made me, be the one who tells me who I am every day.
MIND
I stopped drinking completely. Alcohol had a huge impact on my mental health; it increased my anxiety, and I knew that going cold turkey and creating healthy boundaries around this habit was a non-negotiable for me.
BODY
I signed up for a marathon. I knew that I had to work towards a goal that would challenge me physically and motivate me to look after my body. I joined a gym and hired a PT to keep me accountable and build my physical strength, and I pushed myself further than I had ever before.
