How Temple Works
Temple plans are about building daily habits holistically - for your spirit, mind and body, with each day consisting of a bible verse, prayer point and workout (don’t worry you get rest days too!). Its purpose is to help you build a strong foundation for a life lived wholly.
Before you begin
Before you jump into the plan, the first thing you need to do is set time aside to decide what vice you might need to give up. I want you to think about that one thing that you use in excess for comfort that isn’t ‘healthy’ or has become a negative habit. For me, it was alcohol, but for you, it could be comfort eating, smoking, or even binge-watching TV. It’s anything that ultimately has a negative impact, rather than positive. This isn’t necessarily about giving up that particular thing forever. Instead, this is about breaking the cycle of bad habits and creating healthy boundaries that will give you more freedom in the long run.
Once you’ve decided what you’re giving up, choose someone to hold you accountable. I told anyone who would listen about my decision to stop drinking. This really helped me, especially at the start when it was difficult for me to break the habit.
Set a goal
Think about a fitness goal you want to aim for, maybe something you always admired others doing but never believed you could do yourself. Now is your time to overcome that and achieve more than you imagined you could. Having a goal in mind gives you a stronger sense of purpose for staying on track in your fitness journey.
I signed up for a marathon, but you don’t have to go that extreme (initially at least), it can be a smaller goal like a 5 or 10k run. It could be something more fun like a tough mudder or even something closer to home – being able to run around with your kids.
Take a few before photos and make a note of how you’re currently feeling about yourself mentally, physically, and spiritually. On the days you find yourself lacking motivation you can look back and see all the progress you’ve made!
Starting the plan
Fit your Temple plan into your schedule - there’s no pressure to fit your plan into any fixed time of day. What matters is that you’re consistent.
For me, the plan works best in the mornings as the aim of it is to create daily consistency and set the tone for that day with biblical truths that will encourage and spiritually strengthen you. This leads into setting aside time to focus on moving your body, challenging it, building it up, enjoying it and releasing lots of endorphins to get your mind into a positive space.
For rest days, Temple’s plans will always have an active recovery option that gets your body moving. It’s important to note, these are suggestions and it’s totally up to you if you want to include these into your rest day.
Top tip: Download The Bible app as suggested readings included in Temple’s plan will come from different bible translations.
